Keira Lynn Phillips (B. 2000, Frisco, Colorado) is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist and received a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
Statement
My work is an interdisciplinary series of autofictions; a combination of small-scale souvenirs, remembered observations, and personal folktales.
I paint with oils to create scenes that often reflect the environment and landscape of cherished places that have changed or been long forgotten. Constantly moving from place to place had me look to the land as a home rather than a set of walls. Now I am observing how these places have changed significantly, or how my memory has distorted the reality. I sculpt with clay to create icons of these places and scenes that can easily be carried with me or turned into parting gifts, almost acting as altarpieces. Most of the visual language comes from the exterior life I grew up with while living a nomadic lifestyle. Imagery that shows up often is birds, the forest, wildflowers, the body, maternal heirlooms, and quiet, unhurried moments that I stand in awe of.
